We’re excited to welcome students and faculty back to the museum this semester, and the information here will allow all involved to visit with us in a safe and healthy manner. At this time, only students and faculty who need to view museum collections in connection with course work will be allowed to visit the museum, but we hope to expand availability to all on-campus residents as college COVID restrictions ease.
Please read the guidelines below carefully as you plan for your visit. We recommend you start by watching the following short video about museum COVID visit guidelines, which is required for entering the museum.
Any faculty member who would like to bring a class to the museum should email Mikki Lane to reserve gallery space for your class visit (vs. individual student reservations, which are covered below). Gallery space and timeslots are limited.
Please arrive at the Museum 10–15 minutes prior to your arranged class visit reservation so that you can:
If it will not be possible to arrive early on the day of your class visit, then please use our Microsoft Bookings platform (see instructions below) to reserve an individual timeslot in the days prior to your class visit so that you can prepare, or call Mikki Lane at 443-2309 to make alternate arrangements.
When you arrive at the museum, push the buzzer to the left of the museum entrance to activate the intercom system and alert the Security Team that you are here. The intercom system works like a walkie-talkie: you have to hold down the button while you are talking, then release it so that the other party can respond. Please let the Security Monitor on duty know that you (or Mikki, on your behalf) have made a Bookings reservation for a class visit. Give them your name and phone number. The Security Monitor will let you know when the museum doors are unlocked (if not already propped open) and it is safe for you to enter.
Email Mikki now to reserve a class visit time
All students will be required to engage with our short video about museum COVID visit guidelines (embedded above) before entering the museum. We recommend viewing it prior to the start of your scheduled visit, but it will also be available for viewing on the tv monitor outside the lobby entrance of the museum.
Any student who needs to visit the museum for course work will need to reserve a timeslot via our Microsoft Bookings platform in advance, no exceptions, and we strongly encourage students to plan ahead and to make reservations as far in advance as possible, as gallery space and timeslots are limited. However, we understand that schedules change and that opportunities arise at the last minute, and we will make a reasonable effort to accommodate reservations on short notice. To that end, it is possible to secure a reservation even just a few minutes prior to its start time as long as that timeslot is still available for bookings on our Bookings page.
Visits are for a maximum of 45 minutes. Scheduled visits begin at the top of the hour, but you are welcome to arrive later in your 45 minute time slot if you are unable to arrive on the hour or if you don’t require the full 45 minutes in the museum. Please keep in mind that visitors who are still in the galleries at the :45 minute mark may be instructed to exit the museum to make way for subsequent visitors.
At this time, it is not permissible for one person to schedule a time slot for multiple visitors—i.e., if you want to be accompanied by a friend, then he/she/they will need to make his/her/their own reservation. Yes, the system will technically allow you to go back in and make a second booking for the same timeslot, but just don’t do it, okay? We need to know that each registrant has overtly agreed to the visit guidelines by entering his/her/their own information. Thanks, you’re a star.
