Painted Metaphors: Pottery and Politics of the Ancient Maya

Elin Danien, Consulting Scholar, American Section, University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and curator of the exhibition Painted Metaphors.

Dr. Danien will explore the fascinating picture of ancient Maya at a time when traditional highland villages were altered by the intrusion of people from the lowlands. This talk describes how modern science and technology enable archaeologists to interpret and contextualize artifacts created by the Maya of the Eighth Century. Cosponsored by the Middlebury College Museum of Art and the Friends of the Art Museum. Seating is limited and is available on a first-come first-served basis.
