Illustrated Lecture
Time: 4:30pm
Location: Robert A. Jones ’59 House, Conference Room

Dr. Christopher R. Andres, Adjunct Research Associate, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Mississippi, Oxford

Since his discovery of a large, previously unreported Maya center in Belize in 2009, Dr. Andres and his students and colleagues from the University of Indiana have discovered that its architecture and monuments provide important insights into the turbulent period leading up to the so-called Maya “collapse,” around 900 C.E. Co-sponsored by the Rohatyn Center for International Affairs, Cook Commons, the Middlebury College Museum of Art, and the Friends of the Art Museum in conjunction with the exhibition Painted Metaphors: Pottery and Politics of the Ancient Maya.
