Caring for Your Family’s Treasures

MJ Davis, paper conservator and preventive conservation specialist. Proper display and exhibit materials can add years to the “life” of an artwork, whereas inappropriate handling, overexposure to light and extremes in temperature will adversely affect the long-term preservation of family heirlooms. This presentation will help you better understand what you can do to mitigate possible damage and make your home the best location for your collections until they are passed on to others or donated to the museum or cultural institution of your choice.

Against the tumultuous backdrop of Iran's 1953 CIA-backed coup d'état, the destinies of four women converge in a beautiful orchard garden, where they find independence, solace and companionship. Women Without Men is an adaptation of Shahrnush Parsipur's magic realist novel, and is Iranian artist Shirin Neshat's first feature length film. Winner of the Silver Lion and the UNICEF Award at the Venice Film Festival, the film "absorbs with its strong performances, stirring emotions and vivid imagery" (Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times). Persian with English subtitles.

This film is screened in conjunction with the exhibition Moving Images: Works from the Permanent Collection of Photography and Video Art.
