New Faces on the Museum Staff

January 6, 2020

In the lasts few months the Museum of Art has added two new staff members. Sarah Briggs ’14.5 was selected as the 2019-2020 Sabarsky Graduate Fellow, and Nina Sweeney has been appointed the new Assistant Registrar.

Sarah Briggs

Sarah Briggs ’14.5 has returned to Middlebury as the 2019–2020 Sabarsky Fellow. After graduating from Middlebury with a major in History of Art, Sarah moved to Missoula, Montana, where she worked as the Director of Education and Development Coordinator at the Big Sky Film Institute, as well as in an art gallery. Following her passion for creating accessible arts programming, Sarah completed a Master’s degree in Arts in Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, during which time she worked as an educator in the Harvard Art Museums.

During her curatorial fellowship at the museum, one of Sarah’s more prominent projects has involved applying her interest in arts education to an exhibition on the Bauhaus which is now on view. Working from her background in documentary film, Sarah is also curating a contemporary video exhibition which will be installed in the museum this summer.

The museum’s Sabarsky Graduate Fellowship—now in its third year—is made possible through a generous grant from the Serge Sabarsky Foundation in New York.

Nina Sweeney

Nina Sweeney has joined the Museum of Art staff as the newly appointed Assistant Registrar. She comes to us with nearly fifteen years of experience working in museums and the arts services industry, notably the American Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Arts and Design, and MoMA PS1. An artist recently admitted to the Vermont Studio Center, her background is in sculpture and installation art, but her current focus is on painting and drawing.

Nina is currently completing the launch of the museum’s new online collections database, a project on which she worked extensively last summer as part of an IMLS grant-funded initiative. Nina is excited now to join the museum staff on a permanent basis and looks forward to getting to know the Middlebury College community.
