Unique among Asian art materials, gold is both a color and an artistic medium. Donna Strahan, Head of Conservation and Scientific Research at the Freer|Sackler Galleries of Art, Smithsonian Institution, investigates materials and methods of manufacture of Asian gold objects.

Hong Chun Zhang, artist


Chinese-born and Kansas-based artist Hong Chun Zhang makes detailed large-scale charcoal drawings of hair that explore the notions of culture and identity. Zhang shares her experiences of studying traditional ink art in China and making waves in the American art scene while keeping one foot on each shore.
